There appears to be evidence that claims the gaming storefront conglomerate GameStop will be changing the pricing and structure of its rewards program sometime soon. The gaming giant was first founded in the 80s and is one of the largest video game retailers in the world. It has also seen many changes throughout the past few years, with varying results. The latest change to come to GameStop is supposedly to its current rewards program, according to an internal document.

The currently implemented plan at GameStop is a subscription program known as PowerUp Rewards Pro, which customers can pay $15 annually to be a part of. This subscription gives customers certain perks at the storefront like a $5 monthly reward for them to spend. There are also points being earned with each purchase, first dibs on console restocks, collectibles, graphic cards, and more. On top of that, it includes a subscription to the gaming magazine Game Informer. Now there is supposed evidence that this program will be streamlined, along with a price increase.

According to Twitter user domthebomb154, who posted screenshots of this change, the new program will be called GameStop Pro, replacing the PowerUp Rewards benefits program. This change will be implemented starting June 27, 2023, and this will see a branding change, new benefits, and different ways to engage. These new perks include an additional 5% off on all things like pre-owned products, protection plans, and trading cards sold at GameStop. This discount will also apply to GameStop branded items (gift cards not included), clearance items, and four exclusive discount weeks during the year.

This Pro member discount will also be stacked on top of other promotions at GameStop, giving an example that if an item was on clearance for 30% off, Pro members will get it for 35% off instead. The document also notes that on December 1, 2023, any points that were earned more than 12 months from their addition to the account will expire. Any failure to renew a customer’s membership will also cause the points associated with the account to expire. According to Dom, the new price will be $25, a full $10 increase. That said: all previous benefits will still be available.

GameStop has seen a variety of issues in recent years, with complaints coming from both its customers and employees. Some gamers on Dom’s post voiced their grievances with the new program, along with the price increase. The future of GameStop continues to be on shaky ground, with the gaming retailer’s issues now more prominent than they have ever been in years past. Gamers will need to wait and see if these changes do end up becoming true.
