BRIGHTON — The Brighton GameStop at 8240 Movie Drive was forced to temporarily close Friday after the staff of the store resigned, according to a post from a local man that went viral over the weekend.
A photo of a sign posted on the building read: “Unfortunately, due to poor working conditions, the staff of the Brighton GameStop have decided to resign, effective immediately. Management overworks, underpays, and constantly threatens termination for any employee that cannot exceed them. To all of our loyal guests, we are terribly sorry for this inconvenience. We appreciate every one of you and your continued business, but I literally cannot pay my rent.”
A photo of the sign was posted by Hartland resident Chris Cannaert on Friday and shared around Facebook and Twitter over the weekend. A post from the Twitter account @nintendeal was viewed 87.9 thousand times since Monday.
The store reopened soon after with workers from other locations, according to an employee who declined to comment and wouldn’t provide his name.

The Daily reached out to GameStop’s media team but didn’t receive a response by publication deadline.
The joint resignation took place on the release date of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” a game that’s been highly anticipated by fans since the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” in 2018.
